Mondays 10-11:30 am, Wednesdays 3:30-5 (every other week)

The Blank Canvas Splattered Art Classes lean towards a deeper understanding and strengthening of Fine Art Skills. While the purpose of art encompasses personal expression, how do we get there if we don’t hone in on our actual knowledge and skills? This said, we will learn at our own pace, using subject matters personalized to each individual student (ex. If your student loves nature, she/he will draw/paint nature using examples and references from professional artists!) Some art history and art appreciation will be taught as it corresponds to specific lessons. While references are a nice beginning to the love of art, the BEST way to learn is from life…drawing or painting in doors with a still life or outside from nature…Nicole encourages all students to work from life.

The school year is generally broken down into (3) 10-week sessions. Classes in the beginning of the year begin outdoors as weather permits.
All classes will take place in Somerdale on Monday mornings from 10am-11:30am AND Wednesday afternoons from 3:30-5
Some students may wish to commit to a shorter class time…in that case, parents may take their child a half hour early. Please Contact mr for specifics as my daughter is starting a new school curriculum so I need to see how the homeschool days will unfold before I commit to fine arts teaching schedule

DRAWING WITH CARBON AND COLOR PENCIL, CHARCOAL & PASTELS
Learn form, shading/hatching techniques, page layout, color palette/complimentary colors) while drawing individual pieces. Nicole will also introduce other materials such as charcoal and pastels, giving students multiple mediums to choose from. Depending on students’ illustrative style, they will complete one practice drawing and one final detailed, colored drawing to be matted for the art show.

PAINTING WITH ACRYLIC & WATERCOLOR PAINT
Exercise use of colors, blending, brush techniques while painting an individual piece of your choice.

SCULPTING WITH SCULPEY CLAY
Create a unique 12 inch sculpture, while learning important skills about form, texture and shape relationships. We will use sharp tools for smoothing and cutting into clay.
